Stocks in the news today, October 21: Benchmarks rose for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, supported by fag-end buying in IT stocks despite a largely pessimistic trend overseas. A rally in the rupiah also boosted investor confidence. After swinging between gains and losses throughout the session, the 30-stock BSE Sensex saw robust buying lower to close 95.71 points or 0.16% higher at 59,202.90. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty climbed 51.70 points or 0.30% to 17,563.95. Global equities were broadly negative ahead of a series of central bank meetings. Among other Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 90.22 points, or 0.3%, to 30,333.59, the S&P 500 lost 29.38 points, or 0.80%, to 3,665.78 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 65.66 points, or 0.61%, to 10,614.84.

Shares of Colgate-Palmolive India Ltd will be in focus today after markets opened after major FMCG on Thursday reported a 3.28% increase in net profit to Rs 278.02 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2022, helped by improving sales momentum.
ICC
ITC Ltd on Thursday announced a 24.08% increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 4,670.32 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2022.
Axis Bank
Axis Bank on Thursday reported a 70% jump in its standalone net profit to Rs 5,329.77 crore in the quarter ended September 2022 on the back of a healthy base income helped by the reduction in bad debts. The country’s third-largest private sector lender had recorded a net profit of Rs 3,133.32 crore in the previous year, in the same quarter ended September 2021.
